The Parrella Change the World Award

To create peace and justice from a place of empathy and hope requires more than courage, it requires a belief and a passion that we can make a difference to help change the world. It is within this belief and passion that this gift is given.

This $500 Award, established in June 2015 by Professor Gilda Parrella, is designed to recognize the contributions and dedication of students who give of their time and resources to those in need to make the world a better place for us all. Through their personal efforts and/or by working with groups and organizations, we acknowledge their gifts of time and passion that go beyond course work, internships and directed studies to meet the growing needs for peace and social justice in our world.

The recipient (an SOC Junior/Senior with at least a 3.25 GPA) shall be chosen on a yearly basis by a committee from the Advocacy and Social Change program of the School of Communication of Loyola University Chicago, the award founder, Gilda Parrella, and the Office of the Dean of the School of Communication.

Student Eligibility:

‰Ű˘ Undergraduate students can qualify for this award by engaging in volunteer work for at least one year and may not, at the time of the award, be enrolled in any course at Loyola or any other institution for course credit for that volunteer work.

‰Ű˘ Students are not eligible for this award if they are paid by the organization to which they donate their time. Students must be enrolled in coursework at Loyola when they apply for this award and be in good standing at the University.
